Teen & Adolescent Therapy in Encino, CA
A Safe Space for Teens to Be Heard
Therapy for teenagers navigating anxiety, depression, identity, family conflict, and the pressures of growing up — with a psychologist who actually gets it.
Adolescence Is Hard. Getting Help Shouldn't Be.
The teenage years are one of the most intense periods of psychological development in a person's life. Teens are figuring out who they are, navigating social hierarchies, managing academic pressure, and dealing with family dynamics — often without the emotional vocabulary or life experience to make sense of what they're feeling.
Dr. Carrie Jacobs works with adolescents aged 13–17 in a space that is genuinely theirs — not an extension of their parents' concerns, not a place where they'll be judged or lectured. Teens are more likely to open up when they feel respected as individuals, and that's exactly the environment Dr. Jacobs creates.
Whether your teen is struggling visibly or quietly withdrawing, early support can make a profound difference — not just now, but in how they carry themselves through the rest of their lives.
What Brings Teens to Therapy
How Dr. Jacobs Works With Teens
Adolescent therapy requires a different touch than adult therapy. Dr. Jacobs meets teens where they are — adapting her approach to each young person's personality, communication style, and readiness.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Help teens identify the thought patterns driving anxiety, depression, and low self-worth — and build practical skills to shift them.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills
Teach emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness — the core skills teens often need most.
Mindfulness-Based Approaches
Build awareness of thoughts and feelings without being swept away by them — especially useful for anxious and overwhelmed teens.
Trauma-Informed Care
A safety-first approach for teens who have experienced abuse, loss, or other difficult events that are affecting their daily functioning.
Identity & Affirming Therapy
A non-judgmental space for teens exploring gender identity, sexual orientation, and who they are becoming — including LGBTQ+ affirming support.
Family Involvement (When Appropriate)
Parents are kept informed at a level that respects the teen's privacy. Family sessions can be incorporated when they support the teen's progress.
A Note for Parents
It can be hard to watch your teenager struggle — and even harder to know when to step in. If your teen is withdrawing, their grades are slipping, their mood has shifted, or they've said or done things that worry you, those are signs worth taking seriously.
Dr. Jacobs works collaboratively with parents while maintaining the confidentiality that allows teens to speak freely. You'll receive regular updates on progress and goals — without compromising the trust that makes therapy effective.
The initial consultation is a chance for parents to ask questions, share concerns, and get a feel for the approach before your teen's first session.
